Sleep Apnea Treatments
At Elite Sleep Apnea Solutions, we treat sleep apnea one of two ways: continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or somnoplasty. We will determine which treatment option is best for you based on your sleep study and symptom severity.
Benefits of CPAP
- Fairly Quiet
- Small and Lightweight
- Keeps Airways Open
- Corrects Snoring
- Improves Sleep
- Relieves Symptoms
Somnoplasty, a simple and effective in-office procedure, is performed under local anesthesia and utilizes radiofrequency (RF) energy to shrink throat tissue – the source of obstruction – in the upper airway, which may include the base of the tongue. During the minimally invasive procedure, we’ll deliver controlled thermal energy into targeted areas to reduce excess tissue, stiffen soft tissue and open the airway.
Typically, somnoplasty takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete and requires little downtime. Patients can usually return to normal activities the day after the procedure. Unlike traditional surgery, patients only experience slight discomfort and swelling, which usually goes away after a few days with pain medication. However, for optimal results, additional treatment may be necessary.
Am I a Candidate for Somnoplasty?
Somnoplasty can effectively treat individuals with mild, moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea caused by the tissue at the base of one’s tongue. If you think you have sleep apnea, schedule an appointment with Elite Sleep Apnea Solutions. Our board-certified sleep medicine physician can diagnosis the presence of sleep apnea and identify the sites of airway obstruction. After your evaluation, we can determine if somnoplasty is right for you.
